How to plan and organize a Surprise Party.

The element of surprise is sure to make any celebration more meaningful and exciting. Who wouldn’t want to be surprised with festivities? Imagine making your loved one believe that everyone has forgotten his or her birthday until the guests jump out all over the place and yell, “Surprise!”

You can wow just about anyone with a well planned surprise party. The party can be a gathering of a few friends and family or it can be a whole roomful of people. Keep in mind that you have to make sure that a surprise party is appropriate for your guest. Make sure that he or she has a good sense of humor and will appreciate the surprise. Do not get yourself tangled with the party unless you come up with a good plan. The basic things you need are a decoy for the party and of course, the element of surprise. Tell everyone involved to keep it a secret until the day of the surprise party. Remember, timing is everything.

Here are some helpful tips to make sure your surprise party is a success:

1. Choose the type of party you will plan. Is it a birthday, anniversary, graduation, etc? Not all occasions are appropriate for a surprise party. Christmas, Thanksgiving or Halloweens aren’t usually celebrated with a surprise party.

2. Determine the guest of honor. Who is the lucky person to be surprised? Make sure he or she would not be upset or the surprise party plans will not be conflicting with his or her own party plans that night.

3. Gather a group of people to help you. You will need a team of party organizers and you will need the guests’ cooperation as well.

3. Set the date and location for the party. Make sure the guest of honor is available and so are the guests.

4. Make a guest list. The guests are a huge factor that will determine the success or failure of a party. Invite an interesting set of people who you know would have a good time. Include the family members of the guest of honor, the closest friends, old friends he or she has not seen in a long time and include new friends too. Ask around to make sure you did not forget to include anyone. Get their contact details and coordinate with them. Tell them to keep the whole thing a secret. You would not want anyone spilling the beans before the party!

5. Find a believable and effective decoy leader to organize the decoy activity. The goal is to catch the guest of honor off guard so the decoy has to be dependable and not look or act suspicious. The decoy activity should be something the celebrant would like; perhaps a dinner date, a family dinner, etc. Tell all the guests to play along with the decoy activity. Just make sure the activity doesn’t take too long. Thirty minutes is enough.

6. Make sure the actual party is better than the decoy activity. You would not want to disappoint the celebrant!

7. Everything is DONE enjoy your efforts and organisational skills, the party will start soon. Good luck!
