Gift Ideas for Teenagers

Gift giving is a heart-warming experience. It is not simply an exchange of material objects but also an expression of affection. We all partake in gift giving for various reasons: birthdays, Christmas, anniversaries, graduation, etc. The idea of giving is always regarded with much positivity but the truth is it is not always rainbows and butterflies. The challenge lies in the choice of what gift to give. For many of us, finding the right one can be such a difficult experience, especially when it comes to shopping for teenagers. Though they are a joy to our lives, they are not always easy to shop for. Picking out the right gift that they would like means we have to figure out the things they are into, things they like at the moment and things that they would appreciate. Some teens tell you exactly what they want to get as gifts but there are those who leave you guessing.

The best way to figure out the perfect gift for a teenager is to match the gift with his or her personality. What kind of music does he or she listen to? What are the things or experiences that cover his or her interests?

If you are shopping for a girl, pants, shirts or skirts can be quite risky; teenage girls usually have their preferred style. Nevertheless, it won’t be difficult to guess which fashion they like at the moment if you are good observer. You can visit the Teen’s fashion section of a good reputable shop or mall, where you will easily find something that will suit your teenager and also your wallet. Another option would be to take the teen shopping with you, but if this is not what you want and you really can’t guess what kind of style your teen might like, just avoid buying clothes totally. Instead, go for fashion accessories like scarves, gloves, hats, etc. – doing this, you can’t go wrong.

Although girls are seemingly easier to shop for because there are many things they could possibly want, this is not always how it works out. Moreover, if you don’t have a really close relation with your teen daughter, in this case you can buy a book about friend-ship, gossip or fashion. Perhaps, some kind of interactive journal in which she can mark out her daily activities.

Another kind of gift teenage girls will surely appreciate is make-up, fancy jewellery or stylish handbags. Just make sure the gift reflects her style and personality!

Another popular choice is a DVD of her favourite television series, such as Hanna Montana, Drake & Josh, iCarly, Wizard of Waverly Place for example. You can ask her directly if you want to be 100% sure, or better still ask one of her close friends or relatives, such as her mother, sister or even her brother which show she is currently into and you will get an idea which DVD to buy.

If she’s into gadgets, get accessories for her phone, camera, laptop, etc.

If you are shopping for teenage boys, your choices are a bit limited. Most boys are into sports so buy merchandise of his favourite sports team; get a jacket, hat, socks, jerseys, etc. Get him a cool band shirt if he’s into music or buy a CD of his favourite band/ singer. A more expensive gift would be cologne, aftershave or luxurious polo and sweater. You can also get him concert tickets or game tickets.

Most boys will love anything relating to cars or motorbikes. Here you can explore activities such as performance driving centres in your area, where you can organize a ride for him to learn how to handle driving high-performance cars under the guidance of a professional instructor on a purpose-built track. Another option falling into the same category could be rally tracks where he can ride with a rally driver in a car such as a WRX, just for the sheer thrill of it. He will surely love you for such an amazing experience!

A more unusual option is to take him to a flight simulator where he will have the opportunity to learn to fly in an aeroplane – these simulators are used to train real pilots of modern commercial airliners and are completely authentic.  If aviation is really his thing, most airports have flying schools that offer a Trial Instruction Flight. The TIF is a short flight offering a hands-on experience in either planes or helicopters for potential pilots. Age is not a real barrier as these are available to boys (and girls) in their early teens.

Rides such as these are doubly appreciated, because, apart from the thrill of the ride, they give to any teen fantastic ‘I can do it’ feelings.

Gift giving can be such a chore but the easiest way to do it is by knowing exactly what to give.
