How to choose the perfect Beach Wedding dress?
On April 29th, Kate Middleton wore the wedding dress of her dreams designed by Sarah’s Burton of Alexander McQueen, she showed it off at her arrival at the Westminster Abbey where she married her Prince Charming in fairy tale wedding! Her fairy tale dream came true! And so can yours. And although your wedding will not take place at Westminster Abbey you can still have the wedding of your dreams – at the beach!
Beach weddings have caught the eye of romantics and couples in love as the most perfect way to get married. The idea of making your vows to each other in a seemingly perfect summer setting is unbeatable for so many.
Asked why they decided to get married at the beach, Katie and her new husband Eric replied, “The beach has the perfect scenery because it cannot be replicated. Nothing can replace the music of the waves, the feeling of the sand underneath our feet or the sea breeze blowing in our faces. It is a real and memorable event for both of us; quite different from the usual weddings in the city.”
This couple would not have chosen differently, given a choice. The memories of their beach wedding have imprinted a special moment not just for them but for their guests too. However, not everything is smooth sailing when it comes to weddings, especially those donned in the beach. Katie adds, “I was very happy to have an unusual setting for my wedding but we were not spared from a few bumps along the way.”
When asked about the main concerns faced during the wedding, Katie answered, “The arrangements were taken care of by the organizers but frankly I was worried about my wedding dress. The beach could be very breezy and it was my first time to pick a dress for my wedding. Of course I didn’t know what was the best style that suit my shape and environment. I have to choose!”
To help out future brides facing the same problems like Katie did with choosing her dress for her beach wedding, here are some things you should consider:
1. Length - you could sink in the sand or you could be faced with a humid climate. In such cases, a tea-length or cocktail length dress would be a good option. A long ball gown has higher risk of getting wet or sandy – don’t risk it!
2. Type of fabric - choose light, sheer fabrics like silk, chiffons, organza’s, and satin-faced organza’s. This material gives wedding dresses a light breezy look, just perfect for a beach wedding... They are also cooler for your skin and they give you an instant, sultry figure, meaning you will look fantastic in those wedding photo albums!
3. Color - the color does not have to be limited to white when you get married at the beach. Nevertheless, a beach wedding needs light colors, which are perfect for reflecting the mood – so choose from beiges, creams or if you are a little bit bold you can go for light greens, yellows or blues for your wedding dress. However, don’t forget that a white wedding dress is always a classic and looks fantastic on tanned skin!
4. Style - make sure that the style you choose is a good fit for your body and gives you room to move. Do not put on too many layers otherwise you will be suffering from the heat. Here are some common bridal gown styles for the beach:
a. Select a dress with just one shoulder for a sexy-romantic and stylish bride look - this style is especially recommended if you want to draw people’s attention away from your belt or waist. You could also opt for a loose style dress made from silk or chiffon fabric, and complement it with just a little detail that encircles your belt. Such a look will be reminiscent of those romantic maidens from tales of ancient Greece or Rome!
b. Empire cut or mermaid style - this style is great for girls with a slim, curvy body. It will enhance your sexy shape and looks simply sensational, and why not? Take advantage of your natural attributes!
c. Strapless, cocktail style - Perfect for a great wedding reception on the beach, all the more so if you have been blessed with great-looking shoulders. Your shoulders will affect the style of your dress and allow your beauty to shine through. Don’t forget to wear a bra with good support for the occasion, and make sure it goes well with your dress so as to enhance it.
d. V-neck – This is a great style to show off your sexy cleavage. It will give you also a vaporous and fresh look for the beach environment.
e. Simple sundress style - One of the major characteristics that Kate Middleton had with her wedding dress was the simplicity of her gown and how beautiful and elegant it looked on her. Although you are not Kate Middleton, this is still your fairy tale. You are the princess for your own special day, marring your own Prince Charming, so why not take inspiration from Kate and adapt her simple style to your wedding beach dress?
5. Accessories - you can opt for the traditional wedding veil but beach weddings do not require it. For your hair, no need to be so elaborate; wear your hair long, pulled back or with a circle of flowers on top of your head. Adorn it with pearls or a beautiful clip. Use one eye-catching piece of jewelry only or use a range of simpler pieces. Use a hand fan or parasol as accessories to shade you from the heat. For your feet, you can go barefoot or go with flip flops adorned with pearls.
Pay attention to the above advice – make sure you dress up right; you want your beach wedding to be the most memorable day of your life so the most important thing is the planning of every detail - don’t rush on your decisions. Take the time to try as many dresses in, as many different styles as you want. Your wedding dress has to reflect that part of your personality that is unique on you, your own style!
Listen to the advice of designers and pay attention to the latest fashions around you, just remember this wedding is your occasion, no one else’s, and so it’s vital that you look and feel great when you put on that dress. Your beach wedding is going to be your special day and so you need to feel exactly that way- so special!
