How To Celebrate Father’s Day With Your Hero

Did you know that the tradition of celebrating Father’s Day started with Sonora Smart Dodd of Washington? Her widowed father raised her, together with her five siblings at a period when widowed men commonly left their children to the care of female relatives. In 1909, the idea of “Father’s Day” struck her during church on what was, coincidentally, Mother’s Day. By 1902, the first celebration of Father’s Day was observed that year and it quickly grew to be so popular that by 1924 a presidential proclamation was made in support of the tradition. And so, it was proclaimed that Father’s Day be observed every third Sunday in June to honor our beloved fathers.

Father’s Day has gone on to be celebrated around the world, although it is actually celebrated on different dates in different countries – for example, Australia celebrates it on September the 4th this year. But nevertheless, it is one day out of the whole year where we can make our fathers feel extra special. Some of us are fortunate enough to celebrate it at home but some have long distance relationships with their fathers. Regardless of the distance, there are still ways to celebrate Father’s Day with your hero, your father. Here are some of the best suggestions on what to do with your dad on his special day:

1. Put up a social networking account for your dad. It is a great way to shorten the distance between you and him by using virtual communication. He can view your latest pictures, your activities and get news about what is going on in your life.

2. Send a video greeting to your dad via email or to his mobile phone.

3. Call your dad through online video call. Talking to him would make him happy but actually seeing him and talking to him would be even better.

4. Surprise your dad with a digital postcard or e-cards through the email. If you have time, send an actual postcard, letter or greeting card via post mail. It’s a bit old school but he will appreciate your effort!

However, if you’re lucky enough to have the chance to be with your dad on Father’s Day, here are some ideas to give him a day he won’t forget:

1. Treat him like a king for the day. Start by cooking him a Father’s Day breakfast with his favorite breakfast food. Make sure you cook it yourself to make it more special! Get his morning paper and do his chores for him. The goal is to give him a day to relax and to be pampered.

2. Finish that tree house; bench or whatever projects your dad has been trying to finish for ages. Work with your mom and other siblings to surprise him with the finished project! You can even get down and dirty and build him something that he needs like a new chair, a new coffee table, a footrest, etc.

3. Take your dad out to a special event. Is he a rugby fan or a football fan? Bring him to see a game and try to score seats of his favorite team!

4. Plan a date with your dad. Do something that he likes to do even if you don’t exactly enjoy it. Play golf with him or go fishing with him. Plan a camping trip for the whole family to spend the day together – but remember to take everything necessary for a great barbecue while camping next to a lake or up in the mountains. In addition, if you are good playing some musical instruments you can have a pleasant evening playing nice songs for your father and pump some fun!

5.- If you would like to really indulge him perhaps you can wrap a nice basket filled with delicatessens and snacks you know he enjoys, and don’t forget to complement it with a bottle of good wine or his favorite Cognac.

6.- Lastly, your dad might be a smoker –if so, how about buying him one of his favorite Cuban cigars, wrapped specially for the occasion?

These last two options are more advisable if your budget can afford them. For more great ideas or suggestions you can also contact a WippyGift consultant who is always willing to help and assist you.
