So, you’ve read the previous blog from WippyGift, Finding Your Giftees’ Gift Behaviours, and you’ve discovered what each of your friends are. Now, what gift do you give each one?
Giving Words
These giftees love words and the obvious choice is books - positive, inspirational and uplifting ones. These can be books of inspirational biographies or autobiographies, uplifting quotes or affirmations. They may also like affirmation cards, motivational CDs, music CDs or inspirational/moving movies – DVDs. And always, always, always include a card or note with something personal from you written on it.
Giving Time
These giftees value time and, though it may not appear so, they do appreciate you giving your time to them. Gifts with time and effort put in are especially appreciated – bowls or baskets of assorted small gifts; flower arrangements with special little goodies included (e.g. chocolates, cards, cookies); nappy cakes for baby showers. They love trips away (though they may mutter about not affording the time!), dinners and even pampering gifts like massages, hairdos, facials and makeovers ... and don’t forget than men like these pampering gifts too!
Giving Gifts
Giftees who love giving gifts, love receiving them. They appreciate most gifts. However, you can try to surprise them with quirky or different gifts – lots of little things in a package (you’ve gone to a lot of trouble over this gift), practical joke gifts, beautiful frames with photos of someone special (you or them, probably) in them. Or, get really crafty and buy them what they last gave – they bought it for someone else so they’ll love it for themselves!
Giving Service
These giftees are usually practical and appreciate tools, replacements for broken/damaged things or how-to books on their favourite subject – cooking, mechanics, organic gardening and so on. If they were intending to do something but had not got around to it, they’ll love you stepping and buying it – a new hair dryer, a handyman for a day, new shoes for their horse. What have they been saying they must do or get for themselves – that’s your clue! Or give them a certificate and they can help someone else, practically.
Giving Touch
These giftees love giving and receiving the gifts of touch – gift vouchers for a massage, hairdo, makeover or even a chiropractic treatment. Tactile gifts can be fluffy toys, silk shirts, natural (e.g. wooden or stone) ornaments, “plumpy” cushions, thick shaving cream, bubble bath or warm slippers. If you can stroke it, squeeze it or play in it, they’ll love it.
Let’s face it, we all crave love, appreciation and thanks. Giving gifts – whatever they are – provides us with what we most want. Most people, then, love any gift you buy them. More importantly, how you feel about buying and giving the gift is transferred to the gift. If you buy it with a sense of fun and love, it will most likely be received like that. So, start with joy – the gift of giving – and you’ll be a truly great friend and/or colleague!
